Ilona Huss Walin och Dorinel Marc

FÖRFÖRSTÅELSER OCH ÖVERTRÄDELSER/ PRECOMPREHENSIONS AND TRANSGRESSIONS

Galleri Konstepidemin, Göteborg 7 - 29 mars 2009

Konstepidemin exhibits Ilona Huss Walin and Dorinel Marc – two artist that uses social interaction as method. Their working methods differ but they have performativity as common ground. What also distinguish them is that both of them involve humans/animals in their work. In her stages of children and rats as actors Huss Walin wants to study thoroughly how language works in different situations. Marc stretches social borders and problematizes moral questions through interventions and appearences.

Ilona Huss Walin presents her video Rat export Hamlet where living rats have the roles in Shakespeares Hamlet. The drama takes place in a castle which is built in the scale of the rats. The rats arent trained, they improvise independently, and as actors in the classical genre they get a new dimension. The form of the film is the result from the artist's ambition to combine two different worlds: As if Shakespeares drama try to follow the rats improvizations. The film is produced with support from The Swedish Art Council Konstnärsnämnden, Sveriges bildkonstnärsfond. Rat export Hamlet is also shown at Vårsalongen Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm until 29 mars.

Dorinel Marc shows a selection of videodocumentations from his observations, presentations, actions, interventions, among others Bunny Girl (1996), Visiting Moderna Museet (1998) and Intervention/Using a Pippinette (2007). Severel of these works are created during late 90´s, a period when Dorinel intensely explored the relation between art and reality. Using the artworlds codes he showed everyday situations to an intiated art audience. And he made the art audience, due to their expectations, experience common fenomenons as art. At the same time the situations he presented kept their status as reality. In that sence he generated a placebo effect concearning art experiences. The videos that Dorinel shows at Konstepidemin are carefully chosen to interplay with Ilonas videowork Rat export Hamlet.
